Ford Bids Farewell to CD Players

It's hard to grasp the fact the CDs are actually becoming an outdated technology, but Ford's latest initiative more than proves it. Just like how floppy discs gave way to optical drives, the CD players in cars are now giving way to streaming technologies, like those found in the Ford Sync system. That is why we here at Superior Ford are not overly worried about the American automaker's choice to eventually discontinue manufacturing CD players in their models.
More specifically, Ford's initiative begins in Europe, where the new Ford Focus will not be offered with a CD player at all. Rather, the Focus is being exclusively equipped with the Ford Sync system. While there is no word on what Ford models will come next, or when, or in what country, we can look at the sales figures of the Sync system to give us some insight has to how much life CD players realistically have in Ford models. Ford has recently projected that as many as two-million cars will find themselves equipped with the lauded Sync system, overseas, in a mere four years. In other words, it more than likely won't be long!
Sheryl Connelly, Global Trends and Futuring Manager, Ford, says on the matter, "In-car entertainment technology is moving digital more rapidly than almost any other element of vehicle experience. The in-car CD-Player - much like pay telephones is destined to fade away in the face of exciting new technology."1
It may be hard to believe that CD players are on their way out, but that doesn't mean that you can't own a new Ford equipped with one right now. That's why we invite you to browse our new and used Ford inventory today.
By visiting our inventory and showroom pages online, you can learn more about specific models, such as the Ford Mustang and Escape.
