New Color Options for Upcoming Models

Ford researchers have revealed that car buyers have strong color preferences and would go to a different dealership if they couldn't get a car in their color of choice. While the most popular car colors remain white, black, silver and gray, Ford is increasing their color palette this year with choices like Ginger Ale, Kodiak Brown and even an icy-green color called Frosted Glass.

Ford actually spends a lot of time on color, using nature, architecture and technology as inspiration for developing new colors. It can take up to three years for a car color to go from idea to production. It's not just about slapping the paint on the metal either, choosing the color name is an important part of the process also. According to Susan Swek, Group Chief Designer, Color & Material Design at Ford, "The name 'Champagne' is a lot different than the name 'Sand,' and all of that has to be carefully considered."1 That seems like an awful lot of work just for color, but according to Swek, it's worth it. She says, "I've talked to dealers who've told me people have bought a car off the lot because of the color."2

This fall, the new array of vehicle colors is "fresh, rich and grounding."3 At its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the all-new Ford Escape will be seen in a golden color with green undertones called "Ginger Ale," named for it's refreshing energy. The all new Ford Focus Electric will debut in "Frosted Glass," a calming light green color reminiscent of tropical waters or the spa.

Stayed tuned with Superior Ford, as cars like the Ford Taurus, and the Ford Focus are set to get new color options, too! In the meantime, remember, you can always see Ford's current color palette in person, at Superior Ford in Siloam Springs..
