Ford Focus Goes Electric For 2012

The 2012 Ford Focus has finally hit the lot at Superior Ford in Siloam Springs and Arkansas drivers will soon be seeing the Focus EV.

The new Focus Focus EV can handle a 100 mile per gallon equivalent (MPGe) range, with only an hour to add 30 miles to its range. The car also features Ford's MyFord Touch and MyFord Mobile information systems.

Production of the 5 seat hatchback EV has already begun at the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant. This is not Ford's first step towards EV - their 2010 Ford Transit Connect is available in EV, it's even built at the same plant.

Under the hood, Focus is powered by a 23 kW lithium-ion battery pack, connected to 130 horsepower motor. The vehicle reaches a top speed of about 84 MPH. Ford says the battery system "uses an active liquid cooling and heating thermal management system to regulate the temperature in the battery. This feature helps to maximize battery life and driving range."1
