Ford has chosen an official laboratory and provider to produce lithium ion batteries for their new and upcoming hybrid and electric vehicle models.

Ford Motor Co. has planned to employ Compact Power Inc. as their main battery supplier. CPI created the lithium-ion battery pack now used in Chevrolet's Volt.

Compact Power Inc. is a branch off of the popular electronics producer LG. LG is mostly known in the United States and Canada as a maker of batteries and entertainment devices, such as cell phones and televisions.
